We completely understand your concern about the chemical smell upon arrival—it’s not uncommon for new bedding to have an odor from packaging, and we appreciate your patience as it aired out. We also understand how important machine washability is, and we’re sorry to hear that the care instructions don’t meet your needs. One of the benefits of mulberry silk is its natural hypoallergenic properties. Silk fibers are highly resistant to dust mites and bacteria, which means that when used with a duvet cover, your duvet will almost never need cleaning. Spot cleaning is typically sufficient for maintaining its freshness or sun curing when possible. (To sun cure, hang your duvet in direct sunlight (with your duvet cover on for protection) for an hour or two at most. Because silk has the ability to absorb moisture, this process will dry it out, improving its insulating properties and restoring its lightness.) If cleaning is needed, we recommend spot cleaning spills with a clean, damp cloth. If the spill has penetrated the silk floss, you can delicately hand wash the affected area using lukewarm water and a small drop of Woolite or a comparable mild detergent, then rinse thoroughly with cold water.
