2025 Mar 28th
Looking for an eco-friendly, plant-based alternative to traditional bedding? Kapok duvets and pillows are the perfect solution for eco-conscious sleepers who want comfort without compromise. Made from the silky fibers of the Kapok tree, this natural fill is light, breathable, and completely free from animal products. Perfect for sensitive sleepers in search of a healthier, natural sleep, Kapok is the ultimate vegan bedding material.
What is Kapok?
Kapok is the fluffy, cotton-like fibre from the seed pods of the Ceiba Pentandra, a deciduous tree shaped like a huge umbrella with enormous buttress roots. These giants of the rainforest can grow up to 250 feet tall (that’s about 25 stories!) and live for up to 300 years.
Found in the subtropical and tropical rainforests of South America, Africa, and Asia, Kapok trees are like the rainforest's superheroes. They tower over the competition, provide homes and snacks for frogs, birds, and bats, and produce thousands of fruits every season.
Also called Java cotton, silk-cotton, or Samauma, Kapok fibre has been used in all sorts of diverse products—like bedding, toys, lifejackets, and even as a seal for blow darts in Native Amazonian tribes.
How is Kapok Harvested?
Producing this fluffy fibre requires no pesticides, herbicides, or chemical treatments. You can harvest the fruits simply by picking them from the tree or collecting them from the ground, protecting the plants and the web of life around them.
What Makes Kapok Fibres Special?
Kapok fibres are like the lightweight superheroes of the fabric world. They're super plush and airy, and with their hollow inside and waxy coating, they make the perfect waterproof insulators. These fierce fibres are naturally resistant to moisture, mold, and pests—protecting your sleep space from bedtime baddies.
On their own, Kapok fibres are short and brittle, but when blended with other fibres like cotton, they become a sleep-supporting dream team.
Bringing Kapok to Bed
What makes sleeping with Kapok bedding so special?
-
Eco-friendly: Kapok is an organic, vegan material derived from a sustainable rainforest crop, harvested in a way that doesn’t harm the tree. The tree is naturally pest-resistant, and does not require pesticides, herbicides, or additional chemical treatment during harvesting. Simply put, you can rest easy knowing you’ve made a responsible choice for the environment!
-
Moisture-resistant & breathable: This silky-soft fibre is inherently hydrophobic, and when combined with its rayon from bamboo shell, it naturally wicks moisture away for a dryer and cooler sleep, keeping you cozy and refreshed in any season.
-
Allergy-friendly & antimicrobial: Kapok’s hypoallergenic properties make it the perfect snuggle buddy for sensitive sleepers. It’s naturally anti-bacterial, mold-resistant, and pest-resistant — it’s basically a sleep fortress, making it perfect for anyone with sensitive skin or allergies, and a dream for anyone looking for a fresher, healthier sleep!
