Find Your Dream Duvet
2018 Nov 2nd
The right duvet has the power to completely transform your sleep experience. Whether you’re a cold or a warm sleeper, or even one of each sharing the same bed, there’s a duvet to keep everyone cozy, comfy, and sleeping sound all night long.
FILL ‘ER UP!
Duvets come in a wide range of fills to suit a wide range of sleep needs. From natural fibres, like silk and down, to synthetic options like microfiber and polyester, there’s something to suit everyone.
Silk
Silk is one of the strongest and softest natural fibres, and Mulberry silk is the finest quality available. All QE Home silk duvets are made using the same traditional methods used for centuries in China, resulting in an even fill and a soft drape that contours to the body. Silk is naturally hypoallergenic, moisture wicking, and temperature regulating, making it ideal for sensitive sleepers. Silk is also an excellent choice for sleepers of different temperatures sharing the same bed, as it has the ability to keep warm sleepers cool and cool sleepers warm at the same time. With proper care and use of a duvet cover, a silk duvet should last for many years, and almost never need cleaning.
Down
Down describes the light and fluffy plumules which form an insulating layer on the belly of ducks or geese. Because it is a natural insulator, down is incredibly effecting at trapping in warmth and keeping out cold. Air trapped in between the fibres gives down duvets their signature pillowy soft, lofty look, and makes them an incredibly cozy, comfy option.
Wool
Wool is another great naturally insulating, temperature regulating option. As it has the ability to wick up to 1/3 of its weight in moisture, it regulates body climate throughout the night, ensuring a comfortable sleep. This moisture wicking ability also discourages dust-mites, making it a great choice for some allergy sufferers.
Microgel
Microgel is a great option for those who want an affordable,
easy-care, hypoallergenic duvet. Smooth, silky polyester fibres mimic the
texture of down, making it ideal for sleepers with sensitivities to natural
fibres who want something similar to the lofty texture of down.
WHAT ARE YOU WEIGHT-ING FOR?
The secret to finding your dream duvet is knowing what weight is right for you. QE Home Duvets are categorized by whether they provide Light Warmth, Year Round Warmth, or Extra Warmth.
If you tend to run hot at night, or live in a warmer climate, look for something toward the lighter side. If you tend to be cold, go for extra warmth.
When choosing a down duvet, keep in mind that the higher the fill power, the warmer the duvet. Fill power describes the ability of the down to trap air, and therefore to insulate the sleeper. Our 800+ fill power Legacy Hutterite White Goose Down Duvet is much warmer for example than our 550+ fill power Chinook Down Duvet. So a cold sleeper in Northern Ontario might prefer the Hutterite Duvet, whereas the Chinook might be more suited to a warm sleeper on the West Coast!
Silk duvets are categorized by GSM (Grams per Square Metre) and follow the same rule; the higher the GSM, the warmer the duvet.
